I cannot express with words but I can with the smile on this picture how amazing my time with Doulene and her art class was.💕
Just back from my first art retreat in Bali. Totally blown away by the whole experience, and something that will be an everlasting memory to me.
I was looking for something to kick start my enthusiasm with my painting
I wasn’t sure what to expect with the retreat, as this was a new venture to me, however I was overwhelmed by the whole experience.
I had not been to Bali before, and I was not sure that I would experience much of the culture, however the week provided us with a balance of sight seeing, culture, painting and a delicious choice of food. Not to forget fun laughter and making new friends from all over the world. Our accommodation was well presented, and cleaned daily, with a lovely restaurant attached. It was close by to our painting venue, a short drive daily with a very experienced and friendly driver. Doulene very kindly welcomed us to her home every day, and provided a very picturesque area for us to paint and play, as well as getting to know each other and form lifetime friendships. A pool was a great retreat to the Bali weather, and we certainly did not go hungry with the abundance of Indonesian food that was supplied, both at the retreat and on our outings.
It was sad to leave my new friends, but also very keen to go home and start my painting, with all the new and exciting processes I had learnt. Laura is a great teacher, artist and friend, and is one of the few artists very willing to share her all of her process’s and valuable information. From watercolours, acrylics and social media skills, all of us soaked up as much information as we could to apply to our own process. With a small group we were able to have an unlimited time asking questions, and gained valuable support and guidance from both Laura and Doulene. I would thoroughly recommend to anyone who is considering a retreat. If you are a beginner or advanced artist it is truly a memorable experience.

Honestly, I felt very comfortable making a deposit for the retreat and traveling half way around the world to meet someone I met on instagram because of the communications and interactions we had over email prior to the trip. I had a feeling it would be a once in a lifetime experience and truthfully, my expectations were exceeded.
I’m not quite sure how you selected such a wonderful group of peers but that alone made the trip incredible.
I know how much time went into planning the daily activities and I really appreciated that we got to see the water temple, monkey forest and do a little shopping in Canggu. Every restaurant you selected was excellent and there was something for everyone on the menu’s. While most of our food was included, I felt that we ate very well and overall the trip was a great value. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this retreat. I learned so much and made so many great friends. You are a kind, generous and a talented artist and I’m so grateful that you welcomed me into your home in Bali. I hope you will use me as a reference as I would love to share my experience with others and support you in any way I can.
I know we will stay in touch and I hope we can plan an artists reunion in the near future.
Thanks again, Lots of Love, Laurie Kwo
I had the great pleasure of attending the ‘We are artists’ retreat this month in Bali.
Both Laura and Doulene were incredibly generous with their knowledge, time and hospitality.
The experience as a whole was very rich - our creative time was balanced beautifully with many experiences of Indonesia - the food, the culture, the beauty…. They provided an environment that helped me get into a wonderful flow, I had the opportunity to work real big, and be supported and encouraged through the middle stage challenges. I’ve come home with a whole new level of motivation, some new techniques, and a lovely sense of creative satisfaction. The overall experience was one that I wish to repeat regularly, and I feel very grateful for the new friendships and connections that were made during this time’
The whole group really bonded and that was a very special experience.
My biggest take home , was that I wanted to carry on making art. Yourself and Laura have given me the confidence to carry on making. Perhaps not the confidence to share yet but I do feel I am at the beginning of a journey and that Bali was the kick in the butt I needed to set off on that journey.
Now I am painting more and turning to painting when I am overthinking or anxious. I hope that painting continues to be this therapy for me.
Thank you so much Doulene and Laura for such an amazing time and being the catalyst for change that I needed. You will remain very important to me.
